Analyzing the Flint Legionnaires Disease Outbreak: It Takes a Village

Dr. Swanson began studying the environmental pathogen Legionella pneumophila as a postdoctoral fellow at Tufts Medical School and HHMI. At the University of Michigan Medical School she leads a research program on Legionella pathogenesis and transmission, directs the Office of Postdoctoral Studies, and co-directs the Infectious Disease Sequence. She has a long record of service to the American Society for Microbiology, including previously serving as Chair of the Board of Governors for the American Academy of Microbiology and Chair of Division B (Microbial Pathogenesis), leading to her current role as ASM President.
