Surveillance for human influenza A virus and the identification of mutations that alter virus fitness
Andy Pekosz, PhD
W. Harry Feinstone Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology and the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering
Johns Hopkins University
Bloomberg School of Public Health
The Pekosz laboratory has been studying the replication of respiratory viruses such as influenza, hantavirus, SARS-CoV and enterovirus D68. Studies of virus replication and virus-host cell interactions have been facilitated by the use of primary, differentiated respiratory epithelial cell cultures derived from various parts of the respiratory tract and from different animals. Currently, Andy co-directs the Johns Hopkins Center of Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance and is the President of the American Society for Virology.
